4 Article Marketing Essentials

The importance of articles on websites and internet based companies, today are boundless. They are essential to drive traffic to a site to bring about success. Articles are a key element for making profit on the site. A wise webmaster, has the good sense to include articles in their site that will aid them in creating the benefits and income they seek.

Articles have the ability to drive traffic to your website. Articles can create a higher ranking in the search engine results. The higher a site ranks, the more traffic will visit the site. Of course, there is more potential for profits for other income generating schemes as well.

This does not mean you will overstuff your website with articles, since they have certain requirements. You must adhere to these requirements to achieve the maximum benefits from the articles on your website. A well written article can catch the interest of you clients and have them coming back for more. They can also recommend your site to others.

Here you will find some tips to assist you in writing better articles. There are four things all articles require to be successful in helping you make a profitable income and drive traffic to your website.

– Keywords and Keyword Phrases

You must always center your articles around keywords and keyword phrases. When a visitor visits your site, they may just browse around, without really looking for anything particular. This happens when someone uses the search engines and types in their keywords. These might be anything from Meningitis, Tax Lawyer, Toyota Camry to any number of things.

It is essential that you have included keywords in your article that relate to your site. For instance, if you have an auto parts site, you must have articles about vehicles and their parts. You will find an abundance of online tools to help you determine what keywords and keyword phrases are most sought after. You can use this tool to find out what keywords to use and include in your articles.

– Keyword Density

You must fully use your keywords and keyword phrases. For a search engine to pick up you site, you will need a good keyword density. In order for search engines to give you a high ranking in their search results, articles will need about 10 – 15% keyword density. Articles can help you get a high ranking.

Keyword density is the number of times a keyword or keyword phrase is used throughout an article. The number of course, will vary on the word count of the article. To be effective, an article must have a keyword density that is neither too high or too low. When the density is too high, the essence of the article will be lost and can be a turn off for your reader as well as the search engines, because it seems overeager. Meanwhile, a low density may be ignored by both the search engines and the readers.

– Good Article Content

Never riddle your articles with keywords, since they must be regarded as good reading material. They must provide good information that will help the needs of others while also being entertaining. Always use good grammar and spelling when writing your articles. In order for customers to trust you, you will need to work well through out your article. People generally respond well to facts, figures and statistics. Learn all the great facts and information you can. A well written article can boost your reputation as an expert in your chosen topic or field, as more people begin to believe in you. In this way they will also be able to trust you and the products you sell.

– Linking Articles

Another essential, especially when you submit articles to newsletters, ezine and other online sites, you must include a link back to your website. You can create a small resource box with a brief description of your website and place it directly after your articles for submission. People who like your articles will more than likely click on your link and go to your website.

  • Good information about articles Reed. One of the easiest ways to include key words and key word phrases in your article is to write about your area of expertise. You are going to naturally use your key words as you talk about your niche.

Another good tip is make sure you use a key word or key word phrase in the very first sentence of your article.

Clearly article marketing is the best way to gain relevant back links. Additionally these back links are gained slowly, not explosively; a characteristic search engines look for. In a very short period of time, your site becomes an authority site, and organic listings develop. It is vital to include appropriate anchor text, and links in the author resource box.

As simple as they sound, however, writing an article based on keywords is very important. Last time, I tend to skip the keyword research part and don’t like the idea of ladening my articles with keywords.

One reason is because keyword research takes time and to scatter the articles with high searched keywords takes even more time.

However, as one might guess, the response to the articles are not very good. Not because the content isn’t great. Rather, readers cannot find my content on the web, through the various search engines!

Also, writing articles is one important step. The other critical step is to submit to the various article directories. This is to ensure that your articles will get indexed fast. Search engines will tend to crawl those article directories more often than most other sites. Also, if you have a highly searched keywords, your article will more likely to be shown on the 1st page of the Google returned results. After all, the article directories are often considered authority sites.

There are many such incidents that when I search for my keywords, the results that were shown on the 1st page of Google were the article directories while my website was nowhere near the 1st page!

Article marketing is a good way to get one-way links and also good placement in the Search engines. Use them to the maximize potential!

    Reed,
More good practical information (as if we expect any less). I think you gave a good micro encapsulation of article writing essentials. The only thing I would stress in addition to your suggestions, is that the primary keyword or search term the article author is trying to generate more traffic for needs to be included in the article titls, as sites such as ezinearticles.com will create a URL for the article based on the title, similar to a HubPage or Squidoo lense. This of course helps with search engine ranking. One of the other benefits of getting your articls published, is that the article sites are quickly indexed by Google. I have had articles show up highly ranked in Google searches for the targeted keywords within hours of them being approved posted

If you’re not into the whole writing thing or intimidated about article writing, then I highly highly recommend outsourcing this one task. There are some really good writers on Elance that can do the job for next to nothing.

I’ve been able to hire writers for $80 for 10 articles on a particular niche…keyword targeted articles, and it’s one of the best business investments I’ve made.

@Karl that one is tough as search engines are always changing I’d use the keyphrases as much as you can but make it seem natural. 10-15% can work but may be a little bit high.

    @Article good tips

    Hiya Reed,

I believed the right keyword density is more like 2% – 6% because if you ran 10-15% imagine seeing a keyword once every 10 words? Nuh. Not 10%.

Unless of course you’re talking a bunch of 4 or 5 keyphrases in one article, but I prefer to focus on one keyphrase, say ‘relaxation training’ or .. ‘how to meditate’ in separate articles.

No one has spoken much about duplicate content filters and the need to ‘spin’ articles into variations of the original article, using synonyms, or rewriting articles completely in different versions. I put original articles on Hubpages and that works.

  • An article with a keyword density that is too high will be an overkill. Too many keywords in awkward places will cause people to lose interest in reading.
