How To Use Articles On Your Own Web Site

When you want to make money by promoting an affiliate program through your articles, you’re going too need one thing – a user friendly, attractive website to place them on. You can do this in one of two ways – you can build your own site or you can hire someone to do it for you.

Unless you already know a lot about web design, it can be hard to get started building your own site. You’ll have to educate yourself on the fundamentals, which can take a while. You could just throw together a site right away, but this will likely result in a poorly designed website which looks thrown together. For both visitors and search engines, your site needs to be easy to navigate; which can be difficult if you are a beginner in web design.

Start Slow and Make Big Money With Articles

It can be easy to make money with articles. If you’re a quick study, you can learn everything you need to know in short order without needing professional instruction. This something that everyone looking into getting into niche website internet marketing needs to know.

If you’re new to this, then you should ease into things; by plunging in before you really know what you’re doing, then you can easily lose money and have nothing to show for your work. Before you even get started building your site, here are some things you should know how to do.

Write your own compelling articles or hire someone to write them for you

Optimize your website for search engines

Find a reliable web hosting company

Pick a catchy URL

Create a small site which is easy to navigate, have one created for you, or pay to use a What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG) website builder.

It can be tough to make a Do-It-Yourself website, but if you manage to do it, you may learn enough to write some good articles about it and start your own new DIY niche site.

Instead of building this site myself I hired Ben Cope and it was painless and simple to have him install WordPress, create the graphics and make this site look very good and it was very affordable.

It’s really easy to get started on the web and you don’t need any money to begin.

A self hosted wordpress blog is best, but it that’s too technical for you or you can’t afford it, you could always have a free blog at WordPress or blogger until you can afford it.

Article writing really does work and it’s much easier to write articles than you think it is. you’ll find lots of really helpful tips on my article writing and marekting blog.

One thing I might want to pipe in about. I love the suggestion that it costs nothing to get into blogging using wordpress.com or blogger. The problem with turning to wordpress.com is that affiliate link traffic is forbidden and if you have no money, then affiliate marketing is most likely going to be the backbone of your campaign. If you do use wordpress.com to host your blog, then it is at the whim of WP to decide on whether you are trying “to make money” with your blog. If they deem that this is so, they will remove it.

Blogger is better, but they also have the right to delete your blog, as it is in the TOS.

I use blogger, and have had no problems, but WP.com is not the place to start off in Internet Marketing in any way. Time wasted.

There is one big issue about blog software as opposed to static pages, and that is that the complexity of blog software and the frequency or (required for security) updates make that whole proposition difficult for the truly green greenhorn. A static page with a good article followed by a solid call-to-action is more secure just because of the reduction of components that could be vulnerable.

I have tried several blog applications and my favorites are WordPress, for its simplicity of delivery and Drupal for its huge capability. Self-hosted in both cases.

WordPress with CommentLuv plug-in lets your comments on other blogs with CommentLuv be much more useful. – It shows the most recent, or your choice of blog post from your blog at the comment on your friend’s blog.

Not to mention the fact there are so many different cool WordPress themes and templates that you can choose from. So a search for free WordPress templates and you will see the vast amount of support that WordPress has built.

Choosing WordPress is really a no brainer if you are looking for a professional appearance on the internet.

My first version of HypnosisOnline.com.au was built with SiteSpinner – an excellent WYSIWIG that also comes in two versions.

(With all the scripts that are on it I have moved to membership site software.)

An example of a very simple site I made with SiteSpinner is: http://sleeptalksingapore.com/

The SiteSpinner people also have a free single page site builder called web dwarf, which is a great place to start and see if you like how they do it.
    http://www.virtualmechanics.com/products/dwarf/

WordPress is Excellent as a website (not just a blog) and you can get it complete;y free from http://wordpress.com/ and the redirect it to your own URL, as I did for a friend of mine:
    http://completehypnosis.com/

The main problem with this system is templates are limited, but a little customiszing can make all the difference

Big advantages.. It’s Free! and Backups of your site are taken care of automatically. (You did consider the need to back up your site, didn’t you???!)

Regardless, there is NO EXCUSE for NOT having a website!

Reed mentioned about having a good website. I will agree with him that having a good website with a good layout is right important to attract readers and loyal customers.

Still is not necessary to design your website yourself. A self hosted wordpress blog is a very attractive alternative. The first is very easy set up. You can change things one at a time, as you have the ability, money, and/or time. WordPress makes it simple to export your entire blog into another blog once you’ve got the theme you want on your own hosting account.

    Reed and Readers!
Just picking up on a couple of points that may help some people.
    (1) A business (product) which we have been working on for the last 6 months will launch in Jan 09. So that we could get some good links built whilst the site was in progress, we got the site builder to stick up a catch page and then set out linking other sites and pages every day. We did an Alexa report and have jumped past our main rival, who has been trading since 05 from their main website.
    (2) We used blogger to start, it is easy to set up and you can import headers to match the site you want linking with, so you do end up looking sensible without too much cost involved.
    (3) The Essential Ticket Guide is a digital product we have developed, and it is our first. We have never considered this market (selling info) but can see that it is worth the visit. From initiating the “guide” to building the site has not cost any more than $500. If we only get our money back, then it was worth the trip and experience so that we know where improvements need to be made, and how to do them.
    To Everyones Success!

Reed, for an absolute beginner I would recommend WordPress.com where your blog will be hosted by WordPress.org – Easy indeed and you can start inserting articles as Posts. Then graduate to a self hosted wordpress, especially the SEO version offered by Jeff Johnson’s underground training lab. Wow! It auto-creates tons of TAG pages and after a while you realize THAT is where your Google PR power will come from.. Tag pages. Many of the Tag pages in WordPress.com are PR 5,6,7 and that’s rather helpful for boosting your article-laden blog. Do only original articles.

Your Topic is How To Use Articles On Your Own Web Site
But i needed to make things clearer:What are the ways to make money by writing Articles?
You said ;writing Articles to promote your own Affiliate Program-o.k.You make a web site, post an Article and affiliate link.
There is second one:Choose a Theme/Subject to write about/books,sport,art,traffic,list building…./,now you have Articles, but what about Money?Do i need to use Google Adsense and wait for someone clicks ?Or someone’s banners in the same way?
I don’t see so easy way to make money.

My thinking goes this direct:If you feel to be good in writing on some Theme you like, then it is possible your site/blog has been attracted by people, who would come to see and read your content. That is i did,and then i put a link to my sale page of e-book i created.Potential customers have opportunity to learn a little more on your blog post and then go to sales copy,if they still interested in your product.

I’m using free WordPress.com Blog for now/not able to host it with my domain/.i am contended,of course i don’t get what i have imagined,/for example can’t choose fonts i like, widgets are not allowed/I like my Site to get very nice look.

One site related to my field of interest:Searching for Secret Grail i created on my own ,i did it in Word/Microsoft Office Word/where i had in my disposition more fonts and colors.

I have my blogs at Blogger and have have been introduced to WordPress and can truly appreciate the versatility of either. It’s not the tool, sometimes, it’s how you use it. Sometimes that tool is common sense–knowing when to ask for help. How often do we think we, ourselves, should do and know everything? Outsource what you can so you reach your goals much sooner–or else do it all yourself and greatly slow down the process while trying to learn everything.
On the other hand, you also should know enough about the process to not only advise someone else about what you want but also to be able to see if the finished product works as well as it should.
Who makes the most money–the laborers or the CEO? By supervising the details and the work, you own the income, attained by the many arms of your “army” (pun intended). Let’s face it, just how much can one person accomplish alone? Thanks for reminding us that it takes a lot more than ourselves to be successful.

Reed, great post (obviously, since you are getting a lot of comments on it!). I LOVE article marketing. Not only on my own site, but in article directories. Some comments on other posts:

normz2 — This isn’t a get rich quick method. If you are going to post a single article and see how it goes, it’s unlikely you’ll succeed. I would shoot for an article a day (or at least 2 or 3 a week). It will likely take a few months before you really start seeing the viral nature of articles. You can’t just “try” network marketing. As Yoda said, “There is no try. There is only do or not do.”

Frankie Teo — I agree that paying someone to develop a website can be difficult if you’re just starting out. Most of us start out on a shoe-string budget. If you can at least afford a website of your own and install WordPress, that’s what I would recommend. That way, you are immediately building a customer base to your own website. Also, article directories don’t let you use affiliate links, so you will need your own domain to send them to.

Slavica — This is an easy way to make money but, again, it isn’t an overnight method to riches. But, what you will slowly build a steady stream of leads through article marketing which will help you build a strong and solid business.

    Again, great article Reed, thanks!

Advice about WordPress. ownload the latest version “FREE”, then install it on your own hosted site. If you have an old PC laying in the closet, put it on there and host your own site. This is musch easier than it sounds and you will have 100%-CONTROL over your entire site. The you can add add-ons like member areas, protected directories and a ton more.

Hope this helps. Also as far as control is concerned you’ll have more options and basic freedom on your server/pc if you use Linux instead of Windows. ANd you’ll save thousands in OS fees and related costs.

Ideally what we all want is financial freedom which allows us to do whatever we want with our time.

With articles, once the work is done they can bring you traffic and therefore money forever.

Do the work once and continue to get paid for it.

It doesn’t get any better than that eh?

Good tips. I would like to add that you don’t need to pay for a WYSIWYG editor there is a great one that is free and it’s perfect for the tweaks we need to do to our sites as Internet marketers. Google “Kompozer” and you’ll find. I also have video demo of Kompozer in action as I’m editing a mini-site I had designed for one my products. You can see that video here:
    http://www.imnirvana.com/editing-minisite-with-free-html-editor-kompozer

  • The one thing i would recommend when you have submitted your articles is that you don not go back and edit any part of it as i have found to my cost.
I had a series of articles that were doing very very well and bringing in good sales from the web site, however, i decided to change the anchor text in the bio field and the articles all died.
I contacted customer support and was told “If an article is edited post-acceptance, it is no longer eligible for inclusion in the ‘most viewed’ lists.
So be warned, don’t edit your articles after submission, cos they will die a horrible death.
I have used WordPress, Blogger, and sitebuilder from my own hosting and found the options in WordPress very good.

I’d like to add that No,
you do not have to buy a
    WYSIWYG editor, but there is
a learning curve to be able to
use one to build a website.Even
with NVU, or Kompozer, you have
to master using tables, in order
    to build attractive web sites.
    People just starting to build
    web sites probably should spend
a little money and buy site builder

I think that this is a great discussion. I am a big fan of the WordPress software, but not a big fan of their free hosting site from a marketing position. Whether you choose the blogger or the WordPress platform, you can not go wrong. Blogger is easier to use, and you CAN get away with marketing on a free Blogger account, but you are limited by what you can customize compared to WordPress.
The WordPress.com free blog hosting however is another story. WordPress IS the way to go if you want your blog to perform well and may have to customize in the future, IF you plan on self hosting. The WordPress.com free hosting solution is more rife with missing blogs and deleted accounts for minuscule TOS breeches than Blogger, not to say that the big-G won’t erase you for no reason.

Get a Godaddy account, and host it yourself. Simplicity and Control. Now that’s the right combination.

They are both very easy to use, so you can build your own fairly decent website without having to pay a designer an expensive fee to do it for you.

The most difficult part about building your own website is in getting others to participate and be involved in it. Do visit my website http://www.one1.com.sg and give me some comments

  • I agree Lynne,
Wordpress is the way to go. Blogger is easy to start but if you’re planning to be in this for the long run self hosted WordPress is the way to go. I’ve learned a lot by playng with it and it’s easy to update with new articles. You should also learn some HTML as it will come in handy too
