Eur market comment


Most of the short-term players who sold the 1.2580 break on Friday or
established shorts earlier in the week were stopped overnight, as the
pairing bounced to 1.2629 in Europe, disregarding the weak European
Zew data. Real money sellers emerged at the higher levels and with the
help of strong U.S. existing home sales, up 4.5% to a record annual
rate of 7.18 mln, the EUR/USD slipped to open in Asia at 1.2585. Other
news was the downgrade of GM debt by Fitch and the FOMC minutes
suggesting continued measured tightening. There has been early
selling from model funds this morning and the EUR dipped to 1.2560.
Key levels for the EUR/USD are Monday"s low at 1.2536 and the
overnight 1.2629 high. Dealers report stops building below 1.2520 and
as we head towards the French constitutional vote on Sunday further
risk aversion trades are likely, which will bring the downside stops
into play. The EUR/USD trades 1.2563/68
