Hi IIC,
Question on the "Dow Jones Sector Indexes Winners And Losers" table. Could you tell me what is the source of the information for it? Is this something you compile or can it be found ( as a table) on the net? It also would help if you can point out how to find components of any of the particular industries for further research. For example, how would I find what companies are included in "General Mining "? Thanks |

Nick...I pull that from Dow Jones. It is not a complete list. DJ tracks over 45,000 securities and there are over 1,000 indices. Many are foreign. It is very confusing as to how it is all set up. DJ has Super Sectors, Sectors, Groups etc...and sometimes the terms are used interchangably. To purchase the listings I think it would be quite expensive as I've never seen a price published. http://www.icbenchmark.com Barron's lists major groups every week from DJ(same company anyway). Thanks Doug for the quick reply. I am trying to compile the list of "sectors" but have found confusion in naming that different sources use.. Most of my information comes from yahoo, advanced analyzer ( ameritrade) and few others.. Still trying to figure out what is the best way to sort them out.
Just curious, how did you settle for 100? Does that correlate to DJ "Subsectors" classification? Although it was implied that DJ service is not free in your message, is there at least free list of simbols for the above subsector? I would like to check if those are available as part of the data feed that i subscribe on Tradestation. |

To be honest Nick...I don't personally use the DJ Sectors/Groups much except to review them in Barron's each weekend.
The list I posted is put out by Dow Jones News every hour(although they miss it sometimes)...I just posted it for info. For research I use the the DailyGraphs Industry Groups...it gives you all the components. It is not perfect and some groups don't really make sense. Unfortunately it is delayed too. You might consider http://tal.marketgauge.com I'm not exactly sure what they offer on their paid versions. For free they list the top and bottom groups in realtime along with the top movers. The remainder of the free stuff is delayed. But I guess you could actually copy all their components and set them up in RealTime.
